SALURBAL
Overview
Urban Health in Latin America or Salud Urbana en América Latina (known as “SALURBAL”) emerged as an initiative of the Urban Health Network for Latin America (LAC-Urban Health) convened by Drexel University's Urban Health Collaborative. SALURBAL was made possible by funding from the Wellcome Trust's Our Planet, Our Health initiative. Read more about the LAC-Urban Health Network and SALURBAL's first phase (2017-2023).
SALURBAL partners have continued to collaborate over recent years, securing additional funding to explore the impacts of urban environments, urban policies, and climate change on health and health equity in cities across Latin America.
In late 2023, the Wellcome Trust awarded five years of funding to SALURBAL-Climate. SALURBAL-Climate leverages and expands the unprecedented data infrastructure, interdisciplinary team, and community and policy partnerships established by SALURBAL's first phase.
Climate Change and Urban Health in Latin America is co-led by Drexel University and the Universidad de los Andes and convenes team members from across 12 institutions in eight countries throughout the Americas. Our research examines the impacts of climate-related exposures, including extreme temperatures, droughts, floods, and air pollution, on health and health inequities in cities across the region.
